Christians have been meeting together as the church in San Diego for over 50 years. In September 1971, twenty-five believers moved from Anaheim and Los Angeles to meet as the church in the city of San Diego. Initially, the church was composed of many young people and families. Membership grew rapidly and steadily as all of the believers gathered frequently to sing, pray and spend considerable time in God’s Word. From the very beginning, the church in San Diego preached the glorious gospel of Christ, resulting in hundreds receiving the Lord Jesus as their Savior over the years. By 1973, since many new believers had been added to the church, the need arose to purchase a meeting hall.

The church began meeting at 3666 Madison Avenue in April, 1973. The gospel of Jesus Christ was proclaimed wherever His lovers lived and worked; thus, many new believers from the city’s naval bases, universities, and communities were added to the church. During the mid 1980s and early 1990s, some who desired to spread the testimony of Jesus moved from San Diego to the nearby areas of Vista and Chula Vista to meet as the church in those cities. In June 1994, the church purchased a new meeting hall in Mira Mesa, a community in San Diego, which could hold nearly 300 members. Furthermore, in 2010 there was also a move of members to establish the church in San Marcos.

Today, the church in San Diego is comprised of children, young people, college and graduate students, young working adults, families, middle aged adults, and seniors who each have their function in His family.

At present, approximately 275 (not including children) attend the Lord’s Day meetings in five districts, using both the English and Chinese languages. We gather at the meeting hall at 6640 Flanders Drive and at rented facilities in Rancho Bernardo, near SDSU, and UCSD. During the week there are gatherings on the UCSD and SDSU campuses as well as in many homes throughout the city for prayer, fellowship, mutual care, and loving the Lord in His Word.

As the church in San Diego, we are open and eager to fellowship in oneness with all believers in Christ as well as unbelievers who are open to know the saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
